Say goodbye to the Mercedes-Benz GL and hello to the GLS, which Mercedes-Benz says is the “S-Class among SUVs.” Mercedes-Benz is renaming all of its SUVs, which will all start with GL now, like the GLC and GLE. The new GLS isn’t completely all-new, but it does get a restyled exterior and more luxurious interior.

On the outside the 2017 GLS’s facelift mainly consists of a redesigned front end, which brings it closer to the brand’s latest design language, while the rear gets a new bumper and LED taillights. Inside the interior gets a new instrument panel with Media Display, new 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, modified center console with touchpad and new trim options.
A new Sport exterior that is available on the GLS550, adds a more muscular appearance thanks to unique front and rear aprons, side running boards, side flaps painted in the vehicle color and 21-inch AMG light-alloy wheels.
There are also some updates under the hood. The GLS550 4MATIC V8 biturbo engine now generates 449 hp, 20-hp more than the preceding model, and a maximum torque of 516 lb-ft. The 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine in the GLS450 4MATIC, produces 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Mercedes-AMG GLS63 now has 577 horsepower, over 27 horsepower more than its predecessor. Lastly the GLS350d 4MATIC V6 diesel engine is rated at 255 hp and 455 lb-ft.
