The much anticipated 2017 Honda Civic Type R may be the most powerful Honda-badged vehicle ever offered in the U.S., but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to suck down gas. The EPA has certified the 2017 Civic Type R at 22 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg combined.
If you want to quickly compare the Civic Type R to its competition, it beats the Ford Focus RS, which is rated at 19/25/22 mpg, but it’s not quite as fuel efficient as the VW Golf R with its 22/31/25 mpg rating.

The Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-liter VTEC turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 306 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission and all that power is sent to the ground via the front wheels. The Civic Type R has claimed the title of world’s fastest production front-wheel-drive production car, setting a new benchmark lap time at Germany’s Nürburgring. On April 3, 2017, a Civic Type R lapped the 12.9-mile Nordschleife in a record 7 minutes 43.80 seconds.
Honda has yet to announce the pricing for the 2017 Civic Type R, but it’s expected to start somewhere in the mid-$30k range. Production of the Civic Type R started in March at Honda’s plant in Swindon, England.
