2017 Genesis G90 revealed as the first model in Hyundai's new luxury brand

The Genesis G90, the first model from Hyundai’s new luxury brand, Genesis has been revealed. Known as the EQ900 in South Korea, the G90 will be the replacement for the Equus and will serve as the flagship model for the Genesis brand.

The G90 is based on a stretched version of the Hyundai Genesis’s platform, which itself will also be renamed to G80 when the refreshed version debuts in 2016. The G90 features a new “Athletic Elegance” design language that gives it a somewhat muscular exterior than the Equus, while the shape of its grille is similar to the current Genesis.

Under the hood there will be a choice of two V6 engines and a V8. The base engine is a 3.8L V6 with 228 horsepower and 292 lb-ft. of torque, while a new 3.3L twin-turbo V6 is rated at 268-hp and 376 lb-ft. of torque. The top engine will be a 5.0L V8 with 308-hp and 384 lb-ft. of torque. The engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels, but AWD is optional.
