Chevy has announced that the 2017 Colorado midsize pickup is getting an all-new V-6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new V6 is still a 3.6L like the last generation engine, but it gets new technology, like improved variable valve timing for intake and exhaust, improved direct injection and Active Fuel Management. Horsepower and torque increase to 308 hp and 275 lb-ft, up from 305-hp and 269 lb-ft. The engine is mated to a new eight-speed automatic that is roughly the same size and weight as the 6L80 six-speed automatic it replaces. However, the eight-speed automatic offers a wider 7.0 overall gear ratio spread than the old transmission’s 6.0 ratio.
