It’s being reported that the 2016 Toyota Tundra is going to get a version of the same 5.0L Cummins diesel that will be offered in the next Nissan Titan pickup.
According to the latest reports, the 2016 Toyota Tundra will get the same 5.0L diesel as the Nissan Titan, but it’s not known if its specs will differ. The next Titan, which is going to debut next year will pack at least 300 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. of torque from the Cummins diesel.
Before the market collapse in 2008 Toyota was working on an in-house diesel engine for the Tundra, but plans have not been revived. Depending on the success of the Cummins diesel, Toyota could decide to build its own diesel engine.
When the Tundra and Titan diesels arrive they will face strong competition from Chrysler’s Ram 1500.
