Hanging over the rear axle is a 4.0-liter flat-six engine making 500 hp and 338 lb-ft of torque that’s mated to a unique version of Porsche’s PDK 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Porsche claims a 0-60 mph time of just 3.1 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds- even though the GT3 was really designed for the track.

To make it even faster on the track, a total of 22 pounds has been removed courtesy of carbon fiber panels for the engine and luggage compartment covers and a magnesium roof. This also lowers the car’s center of gravity where it counts. The RS’ function-first philosophy incorporates design elements that increase downforce on the front axle including a low front splitter, massive rear spoiler and unique vented fenders. Besides Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and rear-axle steering, the GT3 has a wider track and tires to increase performance. For the track, a new pit lane mode keeps the car at a set speed when entering the pits on a racetrack.

Like the RS’ race-bred performance, even the interior is a testament to it’s mission with Alcantra throughout and seats based off the 918 Spyder. The optional Sport Chrono Package includes the Porsche Track Precision app that will allow the driver to measure lap times by GPS with their phone and a lap timer. The system also logs acceleration, deceleration, lateral acceleration, and speed data.

In fact, Porsche says the new RS model is, “equipped with the maximum amount of motorsport technology that is currently possible in a street-legal 911 suitable for everyday driving”. These elements all combine to shed 5 seconds a lap off the regular GT3’s Nurburgring lap time for a new time of 7:20 – the fastest of any Porsche 911! With deliveries beginning in July, the new GT3 RS is available to order now, priced from $175,900 plus a $995 destination charge.
