Chrysler is reportedly working on some updates to its Pentastar V6 engines, which will see the addition of new technology like direct injection and turbocharging. The improvements will not only add more power, but will also increase the fuel economy of the V6 engines. The first model to get the updated V6 will be the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The specs for the updated engines hasn’t been released, but the 3.6L is currently used by several models like the Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500 and Jeep Wrangler. The smaller 3.2L V6 will also get some updates and will continue to be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The 3.2L V6 will be used by the next-generation Chrysler Town & Country minivan, which is due in 2016. According to sources the updated engine and transmission will boost the minivan’s fuel economy rating by at least 25 percent over its current 17/25 mpg rating.
