The Honda CR-V is set to become the best-selling SUV for the 10th year in a row and now Honda is hoping it can duplicate that success with the introduction of the 2016 HR-V. The HR-V joins a new growing class of compact SUVs that includes new entries like the Mazda CX-3, Jeep Renegade and Chevy Trax.

The HR-V shares its platform with the Fit, which means that it also benefits from the Fit’s space saving center-mounted fuel tank and its reconfigurable second-row “Magic Seat.” With 100.1 cu. ft. of passenger volume and 58.8 cu. ft. of cargo volume with the second row seats down, the HR-V has space to rival some competitors’ mid-size SUV offerings.

Even though the HR-V shares its platform with the Fit, it borrows its four-cylinder engine from the Civic. The 1.8-liter engine generates 138 horsepower and 127 lb-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to CVT with Honda “G-design” shift logic or 6-speed manual transmission if you get the front-wheel-drive version. The HR-V is available in either front or all-wheel-drive.

When the 2016 HR-V arrives next spring it will be available in LX, EX and EX-L trim levels.
