2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility debuts in Chicago

Get ready to see a new set of lights screaming at you’re speeding down the highway, since Ford has revealed the 2016 Police Interceptor Utility. Based on the updated 2016 Explorer, the Police Interceptor Utility gets an updated front fascia with a new grille, headlights and lower bumper. The rear end also gets updated taillights and a new spoiler.

The Police Interceptor Utility is powered by a 3.7L V6 with 304 horsepower and 279 lb-ft. of torque, but the more powerful 365-hp 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is available. A six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive are standard.

One new feature is an optional Surveillance Mode that warns the driver when someone approaches the rear of the vehicle. Upon detection, the driver’s window automatically raises and all doors lock. A rear camera with washer is standard for the 2016 model with a 4-inch screen in the center stack. As an option, the view from the camera can be seen in the rearview mirror.
