We’re still waiting for Ford to release all the details about the hot 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, but according to a new report it will be powered by a 5.2-liter flat-plane crankshaft V8.
There have been several rumors about what will power the GT350, but according to Motor Trend even though many people have been skeptical about the flat-plane crankshaft V8, Ford is indeed working on it. A flat-plane crank V8 is basically two four-cylinder engines, which can have lots of vibration issues. Ford’s engineers have reportedly found a fix for the second-order vibration issue by attaching a vibration damper on the end of the crankshaft.

Even with the larger vibration damper there have still been some vibration issues and there’s even a report that the vibrations were still bad enough that a bolt backed out of the car’s starter and shut down the entire electrical system while a prototype was lapping the Nürburgring. Engineers have reportedly fixed that issue and now have a prototype that is spinning at 7,500 rpm without any issues.
How much power will the 5.2L V8 have? It could have around 600 horsepower and 430 lb-ft. of torque.
