2016 Chevy Volt Gets a Larger 4-Cylinder Engine

General Motors is going to officially unveil the all-new 2016 Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January, but GM has just revealed some details about its new powertrain.
The 2016 Volt will use a new 1.5L four-cylinder engine that replaces the 1.4L engine that is used in the current Volt. The new 1.5L engine is part of a new, more fuel-efficient family of small engines. It was previously rumored that the new Volt would get a three-cylinder engine, but GM says that it’s committed to a four-cylinder engine.

GM has also revealed that production of the Volt’s electric drive unit will move to its transmission plant in Detroit from Mexico. The new 1.5L engine will be built at GM’s engine plant in Flint, Michigan.
