In addition to the global debut of the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid, Porsche is also celebrating the 918 Spyder’s record lap around Nurburgring Nordschleife. The 918 Spyder was able to complete the 12.8 mile lap around the track in less than seven minutes with a time of six minutes and 57 seconds. It cut 14 seconds off the previous Nurburgring record for a street-legal automobile, and 17 seconds from its run last September.
The 918 Spyder is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that features a 4.6L V8 engine and two electric motors that give it a total 887 horsepower. The 918 Spyder can reach 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds and at the same time can travel up to 18 miles in electric mode.
