GM has confirmed that the the 2015 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra full size pickups and GMC Yukon SUV are getting a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
Models equipped with the 420-hp 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 are getting the new eight-speed transmission that GM says is about the same size and weight as the outgoing six-speed automatic. One benefit is that its 7.0 overall gear ratio spread is wider than GM’s six-speed automatic transmissions, providing a numerically higher first gear ratio to help drivers start off more confidently with a heavy load or when trailering.

It’s expected that the Cadillac Escalade is going to get the new transmission as well, since it is powered by the same 6.2L engine, but the Chevy Tahoe will not for now since it is only offered with the 355-hp 5.3L V8.
