The 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray is getting a new eight-speed automatic transmission that Chevy says makes it not only faster, but also more fuel efficient with a 29 mpg highway rating.

The 2015 Chevy Corvette Stingray is getting a new eight-speed automatic transmission that Chevy says makes it not only faster, but also more fuel efficient with a 29 mpg highway rating.
The Stingray’s reaches 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, 0.1-second quicker than the previous six-speed automatic, contributing to a quicker quarter-mile elapsed time of 11.9 seconds. The eight-speed automatic is now faster than the seven-speed manual, which needs 3.8 seconds to reach 60 mph.

The new eight-speed automatic is faster and more fuel efficient than the old six-speed mainly because of its 7.0 overall gear ratio spread, which enhances off-the-line performance with a more aggressive first gear ratio – 4.56 vs. 4.03 on the six-speed – helping achieve the quicker 0-60 time.
