The 2012 Paris Motor Show officially kicks off tomorrow, but the first photos of the 2014 VW GTI Concept have leaked online early. VW is going to unveil the new GTI as a “near-production” study at the show. In addition to seeing the new GTI, we also finally get confirmation about what will power the all-new GTI.
According to Auto Bild, the new GTI is going to be powered by a 220 horsepower engine, with an optional performance package bumping that total up to 230 horsepower. The reworked TFSI engine is also expected to generate more torque with around 258 lb-ft. The best part is that even with the increased power, the new engine will also be more fuel efficient than the current 2.0L engine. The new GTI will reach 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds and have a top speed of 155 mph.
Visually the new GTI adopts the new Golf’s exterior, but gets GTI specific styling traits like the horizontal red line on the grille. Inside the new GTI will again be offered with plaid seats.
Stay tuned for all the official photos from the show.
