Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, which brings even more power to the SLS AMG range.
Under the hood the SLS AMG Black Series is powered by a 6.2L V8 that packs 622 horsepower compared to the 583 horsepower in the SLS AMG GT. Mercedes-Benz was able to squeeze out more power from the V8 thanks to new camshafts and air intakes that give the engine better breathing and improved oil and water cooling. Even though the V8 packs more horsepower, its torque is down to 468 lb-ft.
The SLS AMG Black Series is also 154 pounds lighter than the SLS AMG GT. Combined with the more powerful V8, the SLS AMG Black Series reaches 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 196 mph. The SLS AMG Black Series also gets wider front and rear tracks and rides on 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the SLS AMG Black Series Mercedes-Benz has removed the COMAND multimedia system to save weight, which is replaced by a lighter carbon fiber dash.
Sales of the 2014 SLS AMG Black Series will kick off next summer, but it will have its world debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show later this month.
