Ford has officially announced the updates that the 2013 Ford Mustang is getting right before its official debut in LA this week.
While we have to wait a little longer for an all-new Mustang, Ford is giving the current Mustang a refresh with a more prominent grille, new hood and LED lighting. The new grille and hood with functional heat extractors combine to give the 2013 Mustang an overall more aggressive appearance.
“We are delivering a more distinctive and emotional design presence that celebrates the total performance of Mustang,” said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. “This latest Mustang design is very respectful of its heritage while continuing to look forward with a more powerful and modern look.”
The rear of the 2013 Mustang also gets updated with a high-gloss black panel that connects the taillights, which now have a smoked appearance. The interior now gets optional leather-trimmed or cloth Recaro seats.
Under the hood the Mustang GT is now powered by a 420 horsepower 5.0L V8. A new GT Track Package is available on Mustang GTs and adds an engine cooler, upgraded radiator, performance friction brake pads and the same Torsen differential that’s on Mustang Boss 302.
The Boss 302 is powered by a 444 horsepower V8.
The 2013 Ford Mustang will be available in spring 2012.
