The all-new 2015 VW GTI is slated to arrive around this time next year, but the model that most enthusiasts are probably most excited about is the top dog of the Golf lineup, the Golf R. VW hasn't unveiled the new Golf R, but prototypes of the high-performance hatch have been zooming around the Nürburgring in Germany.

Yup you read that right. Tessa Baughman a GM engineer recently took the 2014 Chevy Cruze Turbo Diesel to Arkansas, where she drove 900 miles on one tank of diesel fuel. The Cruze Turbo Diesel is powered by a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine and is officially rated at 46 mpg on the highway, but Baughman explains how it's possible to squeeze out even more mpg.

Consumer Reports has announced that the Tesla Model S has received a rating of 99 out of 100, which means that it's has been rated higher than any other model recently tested. Back in 2007, the Lexus LS 460L also received a score of 99 out of 100, but since then no other model has been able to achieve the same rating.

Nissan has released this video of a Nissan GT-R taking on an Oris Swiss Hunter Fighter Jet with 22,000 HP in a land-sky speed challenge. The race in the Swiss Alps was organized by German-based N-Magazine.

Toyota has released a teaser video for its new Furia sedan concept that is going to debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show next month. Toyota hasn't provided any other details other than stating that it is a sedan concept. Does it preview a new Toyota sedan? It's not really known, since all of Toyota's sedans have been redesigned recently, with the exception of the Corolla, which is due to arrive in the fall of 2013.

Jay Leno was recently given an early look at the all-new 2014 Lexus IS, which won't be officially unveiled until next month at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. In effort to improve its sales, Nissan is updating its Leaf EV for the 2013 model year. Yesterday Nissan unveiled the changes to the JDM-spec Leaf in Tokyo. The new Leaf will be offered in three trim levels, with the addition of a new cheaper S grade model. But the biggest changes consist of a new electric motor, reduced weight and an improved steering/ suspension.

Nissan is adding some more updates to the 2014 GT-R supercar, which goes on sale early next year. The new updates are expected to increase the performance and improve the GT-R's ride and handling. Notable modifications include improved engine response in both the mid- and upper-rpm rev range, increased body rigidity, and specification changes to the shock absorbers, springs and front stabilizer. On Friday the space shuttle Endeavour was moved to its new home, the California Science Center. A Toyota Tundra pickup truck without any special modifications successfully towed the 150,000 pound space shuttle Endeavour across a bridge spanning the nation's busiest freeway on Friday night, Oct. 12. The tow was a result of a 20-year partnership between Toyota and the California Science Center to raise awareness of the space program and continue public education through exhibits and events.

Ford has announced that it is expanding its involvement in professional drifting competition by becoming an official partner of Formula DRIFT and the 2013 Formula DRIFT championship. Ford involvement in Formula DRIFT is a significant part of the company's outreach to the 18 to 34 years old age group that might consider a Ford vehicle like the Fiesta, Focus, Mustang or Raptor.

We're only a few days away from the official debut of the Jaguar's newest sports car, the Jaguar F-Type. Jaguar has just released a video of a few F-Type prototypes hitting the North Loop track at the Nürburgring in Germany. Jaguar had this to say about the two-minute video, "watch as we place the F-TYPE through a series of sustained high speed laps with rapid changes of direction, gradient, speed, braking, and surface to help refine the its set up, damping, and braking systems..."

GM has just released a new video of the 2013 Chevy Malibu Turbo LTZ with GM Vehicle Performance Manager Mark Meyers behind the wheel at the Milford Proving Grounds. The Malibu Turbo arrives this fall with a 259 horsepower 2.0L turbocharged engine that accelerates the Malibu from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds. The Malibu turbo is rated at 21 city and 30 mpg highway.

GM has just released two new videos that provide a closer look at the "performance-inspired" 2013 Chevy Sonic. Just in case you missed the news, the 2013 Sonic RS is the most performance oriented model in the Sonic lineup. It's still powered by the same turbocharged 138-hp 1.4L engine as the non-RS models, but it gets different transmission gear ratios and a lowered and stiffened suspension.

Nissan has unveiled the Nissan NV200 London Taxi, which is Nissan's take on a future London "Black Cab." According to Nissan, the NV200 London Taxi will offer significantly reduced CO2 outputs compared to current taxi models - a focus in line with the Mayor Boris Johnson's Air Quality strategy for London.

The Nissan NV200 London Taxi is based on Nissan's NV200 compact van. The taxi version was designed from the inside out for the well-being of passengers, drivers and even other road users, the NV200 London Taxi is more efficient and more environmentally considerate than current 'black cab' models, while delivering more comfort, space and convenience for occupants. A particular focus was also placed on providing for passengers with mobility issues.

The production version of the upcoming 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder was just unveiled in a new video. The 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder was unveiled in a private event for potential buyers.

The 2014 918 Spyder is nearly identical to the concept version, which is a good thing. The 918 Spyder will be powered by a 4.6L V8 and two electric motors for a total output over 770 horsepower. It should reach 0-60 mph in about three seconds with a top speed over 200 mph. Porsche also estimates that it will be rated at 78 mpg.
