Chevy has released its Super Bowl commercial that will air during the first quarter of Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday.

The spot, named "2012", shows the Silverado navigating the devastation and destruction predicted to occur this year by the Mayan calendar. A group of friends, who are Silverado owners, makes its way to the designated meeting spot but notice one of their buddies is missing. The missing friend, unfortunately, drives a Ford and doesn't appear to have made it to the meeting point. Ouch!

Volkswagen has revealed the extended version of its new Super Bowl commerical. The extended 75-second spot "The Dog Strikes Back," features an overweight dog named Bolt who is inspired to whip himself into shape by the power and performance of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. When Bolt is unable to fit through the doggie door to chase after the Beetle, he decides to get himself in shape by working out.

"We believe this spot underscores the Volkswagen brand's unmatched advertising legacy. It manages to highlight the redesign and performance of the Beetle with the lighthearted touches that viewers expect from the VW brand," said Mike Sheldon, CEO, Deutsch LA, Volkswagen's creative Agency of Record.

The end of the spot recalls VW's Star Wars commercial from last year's game, "The Force."

Lexus has released its commercial, "The Beast" for Super Bowl XLVI. This marks the first time ever that Lexus will air a spot during the big game.

The :30 second commercial features the all-new 2013 GS as it breaks free from containment, illustrating the company's move in a new design direction for the brand. The spot also hints at the new vehicles Lexus will unveil later this year, which are waiting in the wings for their turn to burst onto the scene.

"The all-new Lexus GS is showcased in this ad because it's the first model to feature the new look of Lexus and it's also the first of nine new or updated models we'll launch this year," said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing. "This spot looks very different than anything Lexus has done before and demonstrates to the 50-million-strong Super Bowl audience that 2012 will be a breakthrough year for Lexus."

The :30 second commercial is scheduled to air at the end of the first quarter of Super Bowl XLVI.

Cadillac's all-new 2013 ATS is the subject of its Super Bowl commercial that is going to air during the game this Sunday. The on-road performance of the ATS is the subject of the 30-second spot.

"The ad showcases what will make ATS a serious new challenger against the world's best compact luxury cars," said General Motors Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick. "It's an opportunity to reach a big audience with the message that Cadillac is expanding into new territory."

The 2013 ATS is set to go head to head with models like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class when it is released this summer.

"The car is the total focus of the ad, with actual testing footage of the ATS," Ewanick said. "Competing head-to-head in an elite class requires authentic performance."

The Super Bowl is only a few days away, but automakers have started giving us previews of its commercials that will air during the show. Today we've seen previews of Honda's spot with Ferris Bueller and Toyota's commercial for the 2012 Camry. For the first time ever Acura is going to air a commercial during the big game.

During the third quarter of the game, Acura's commercial is going to air that features Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno coupled with the NSX concept that was unveiled in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show earlier this month.

"Acura has a specific plan in place across all communication channels to build off of the first round of product news announced at the North American International Auto Show. The response to the ILX, RDX and NSX supercar concept has been extremely positive," said Susie Rossick, Acura Brand Manager. "Our Super Bowl strategies are simple--build upon the buzz created in Detroit and leverage the excitement for the future return of the legendary NSX to the Acura lineup."

This commercial, "Transactions," depicts two actual top car collectors, Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno, in an unrelenting bid to be the first in line to take delivery on the first Acura NSX.

"The goal is to present a commercial that not only clearly positions the NSX as the ultimate 'must have' sports car, but does it in a way that is memorable, entertaining and aligned with Acura's brand position," said John Hage, EVP/executive creative director at RPA, Acura's advertising agency of record.

Toyota has released the extended version of its Super Bowl XLVI commercial that is going to air on February 5th, during the game. After not advertising during the game in three years, Toyota is returning with a spot that promotes the all-new 2012 Camry.

The 60-second "Reinvented" spot takes a cue from the marketing campaign promoting the reinvention of the 2012 Camry. The premise of the spot is that good things are always better when reinvented. The ad provides a humorous take on potential day-to-day experiences and items that could have been reinvented, such as a baby that never requires a diaper change or the Department of Motor Vehicles as an enjoyable place of fun and smiles.

"Reinvention is a powerful idea and one we took to heart when we redesigned America's most popular car with the launch of the 2012 Camry and elevated it above the competition," said Bill Fay, group vice president of marketing at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "The Super Bowl provides a forum to really drive home the reinvention message of the seventh-generation Camry, using humor to resonate with the American public.

Matthew Broderick plays a grown-up version of Ferris Bueller in Honda's Super Bowl commercial for the 2012 Honda CR-V. The 60-second spot reinterprets a handful of landmark scenes from Paramount's 1986 Ferris Bueller's Day Off, including the museum visit, rogue valet and infamous parade float lip sync.

"Matthew's Day Off" is part of an integrated, multiplatform advertising campaign that began earlier this month to support the launch of the all-new Honda CR-V. The campaign encourages the active, hip Gen-Y audience transitioning between their carefree twenties and their more focused thirties to conquer their aspirations by completing their own "Leap List."

"Our primary goal is to support the launch of the all-new CR-V, a pillar vehicle in the Honda lineup, while representing the inherent fun and youthfulness of the Honda brand," said Tom Peyton, Honda brand manager, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

This year's Super Bowl is just around the corner on Sunday February 5th. Advertising during the game is always a big deal and we're already starting to get previews of what we can expect to see. Kia has released the details and a preview of its 60-second spot that will air during the fourth quarter of the game, called "Drive the Dream."

The commercial is for the new 2012 Optima Limited and stars Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima, Motley Crue and MMA fighter Chuck Liddell.

According to Kia: The new 2012 Optima Limited races through a Gen X couple's wildest thoughts as they sleep, including: Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima waving the checkered flag at a speedway; an in-your-face Mötley Crüe concert; mixed martial arts legend Chuck Liddell battling in the ring; a heroine and hunk on horseback in a romance novel setting; champion bull rider Judd Leffew taming a bucking rhinoceros; and a fairy tale ending.

Porsche has released a new video that explains how "Our identity is the 911."

Over the years the 911 has changed, but it has maintained its distinct shape. "Instantly recognizable and originally engineered for the racetrack, it continues to stir the emotions today, just as it did in 1963."

The 911 has been completely redone for 2012, but its changes continue to be more evolutionary, which is not a bad thing.

Mercedes-Benz is going to unveil the all-new 2013 A-Class at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. To give us a preview of next A-Class Mercedes-Benz has released this quick teaser video.

The new A-Class was originally previewed in concept form at last year's New York and Shanghai auto shows. The 2013 A-Class will go on sale in Europe later this year. For the first time ever, the A-Class is expected to be sold in the U.S. as well.

The A-Class prototype in this video is covered in QR codes that allows fans the ability to learn more about Mercedes' new A-Class.

To celebrate the arrival of the 2012 VW Golf R at U.S. dealerships VW has released the "Golf R Drivers Forever" iPad app. The app provides access to everything you would need to know about the Golf R.

Told through the perspective of VW enthusiasts and drivers who helped bring this car to the United States, the app provides an interactive narrative on the evolution of the Golf from its days as the Rabbit in the 1970's all the way to the present 2012 Golf R model.

"The Golf R app was created to celebrate and thank the Volkswagen brand's community of enthusiasts because they represent what makes the Golf R special," said Jon Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. "The app will help build awareness around the Volkswagen brand heritage and we are excited to offer this innovative approach that illustrates the performance of the Golf R."

The 2012 Golf R is powered by a 2.0L TSI engine with 256 horsepower and 243 lb-ft. of torque. The 2.0L is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission and VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. For the first time, the Golf R will be available in two-and four-door models starting at $33,990.

Here are two new videos that are our first look at the all-new 2013 Porsche Boxster in motion.

Last week Porsche officially unveiled the new 2013 Boxster that is now lighter and more powerful than the current generation. The Boxster is powered by a 265 horsepower 2.7L flat-six, while the Boxster S is powered by a 3.4L flat-six cylinder with 315 horsepower. The Boxster will reach 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and the Boxster S will do it faster in only 4.7 seconds.

The 2013 Boxster arrives this summer starting at $49,500 for the Boxster and $60,900 for the Boxster S, plus the $950 destination fee.

Lexus is planning on releasing a host of new models this year and to kick off the product onslaught, Lexus is going to debut its first-ever Super Bowl commercial for Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, February 5.

"This is a big year for Lexus as we introduce nine new or updated models, and the Super Bowl provides us with an equally big opportunity to reach a highly engaged audience of 50 million people," said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing. "The star of our commercial is the all-new 2013 GS which launches in February and kicks off a pivotal era for the Lexus brand. The spot also will convey that even more products are waiting in the wings and are anxious to hit the road."

You can now forget all about the unloved Dodge Caliber because the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart sedan is here. It's set to debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, but the first official photos have leaked.

These photos give us our first official look at the 2013 Dart R/T and Limited trims. The Dart shares its platform with the Alfa Romeo Giuletta and will be offered with the choice of three four-cylinder engines. The 2.0L will pack 160 horsepower, while a 2.4L will be offered with 184 horsepower. A turbocharged 1.4L will put out 160 horsepower. Initially the Dart will be available with either a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission or a six-speed manual, but in 2013 a new 9-speed speed transmission will be available.

Ford has previewed the next EcoSport crossover at this week's New Delhi Auto Expo.The compact crossover is based on Ford's new global B-segment platform.

"The all-new Ford EcoSport reflects our commitment to serve our customers with the cars and trucks they truly want and value," said Alan Mulally, president and CEO, Ford Motor Company. "Our engineering team used their years of EcoSport experience to make every aspect of the next-generation EcoSport even stronger."

The EcoSport was developed in South America for emerging markets in South America and Asia, but it hasn't been confirmed if the Fiesta-based crossover will be sold in North America. Under the hood the EcoSport will be powered by Ford's new three-cylinder 1.0L EcoBoost engine.

"We've promised to bring more than 50 new vehicles and powertrains to Asia Pacific and Africa by mid-decade and the all-new EcoSport continues to deliver on that pledge," said Joe Hinrichs, president, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa. "Endowed with traits that customers in markets like India will want and value, this exciting compact SUV will define a new segment in the small car market."

Next week Nissan is going to take the wraps off the Nissan Pathfinder concept, which is a preview of the all-new 2013 Pathfinder.

Nissan has released a quick teaser video of the concept, which gives us a really quick look at the Pathfinder's new face. Other than that we do not have many other details about the new Pathfinder. But we do know that it will share its platform with the Infiniti JX crossover, which means the new Pathfinder will ditch its current body-on-frame construction. It will also have room for seven passengers and most likely be powered by a version of Nissan's 3.5L V6.

Last week Mercedes-Benz officially dropped all the details on the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL and now three videos of the new SL have been released.

if you missed last week's announcement, the 2013 SL is now 300 pounds lighter than the current generation and gets styling that is similar to the SLS and smaller SLK. The SL550 is powered by a 4.6L V8 with 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. The 2013 SL550 will hit U.S. showrooms this spring.

The 2012 Ford F-150 has been named Motor Trend's Truck of the Year, which marks the fourth time the F-150 has won the award.

"The 2012 F-150 is a no-compromise solution that can be tailored to fit virtually every customer's needs, and the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award further reinforces that this is truly the best choice for America's truck owners," said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas. "We are proud to receive this award and even more pleased that our F-150 customers have additional validation of their top choice."

Motor Trend editors chose the F-150 because they said, "F-150s are built to work and felt better the more they were challenged. Ford offers an enormous variety of configurations and designs, making the truck tailorable to just about any need. It's the combination of advancement in design, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value, and the performance of intended function that has earned the Ford F-150 the title of Motor Trend's 2012 Truck of the Year."

The F-150 previously won the award in 1989, 1997, 2004 and 2009.

Uh Oh! Sales of the Fiat 500 are already lower than was expected and now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given the Fiat 500 a three-star safety rating, which is the lowest rating of any new model tested.

The tiny Fiat 500 received a four-star rating in the frontal crash and rollover tests, but only received a two-star rating in the side impact test. To compare, the Ford Fiesta subcompact has a combined four-star rating, but the crash ratings for other small cars like the Mini Cooper and 2012 Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Chevy Sonic have not been released.

Although NHTSA has given the Fiat 500 its lowest score, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently named the 500 a Top Safety Pick.

Over the weekend a total eight Ferraris, a Lamborghini and two Mercedes were involved in a pileup in Japan. According to reports the accident was caused when one of the drivers lost control of his Ferrari while trying to change lanes. His supercar lost control and collided with the other cars. The accident occurred on the rain-soaked Chugoku Expressway in Yamaguchi Prefecture on the island of Honshu.

Fortunately no one out of the 14 cars involved was seriously hurt, although 10 were taken to the hospital. Sadly as you can tell from this video most of the cars involved are beyond repair. According to Bloomberg, the 60-year old man suspected of causing the accident could face up to three months in jail.

Subaru officially unveiled the rear-wheel-drive BRZ this week in Tokyo. When the 2013 BRZ was unveiled Subaru also announced plans for the BRZ to compete in next year's Super GT Series in Japan, as the BRZ GT300.

Following the official unveiling of the 2013 Subaru BRZ two days ago, Subaru has now released more photos and a video of the new rear-wheel-drive coupe.

The 2013 Subaru BRZ is Subaru's version of the rear-wheel-drive coupe that it developed with Toyota. Toyota's version of the coupe has been dubbed either the 86, GT 86 or Scion FR-S, which depends on where in the world you are. The Subaru BRZ is powered by the same direct-injected 2.0L boxer engine as the GT 86. The BRZ packs 200 horsepower and weighs 2,689 pounds.

The only major differences between the BRZ and the GT 86 is that the BRZ has a unique grille and front bumper, unique fender vents and a slightly revised rear fascia.

The Subaru BRZ is also going to compete in the GT300 class of next year's Super GT series in Japan.

Fiat has employed J. Lo for its Fiat 500 commercials, but for the 2012 Fiat Abarth, J. Lo has been replaced by a sexy Italian woman.

"You'll never forget the first time you see one."

The 2012 Fiat Abarth was officially unveiled at the LA Auto Show this week. It takes the standard 500 and dials up the performance to make it a total hot hatch. It's powered by a turbocharged 1.4L engine that packs 160 horsepower and 170 lb-ft. of torque.

The 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1 packs an awesome 580 horsepower and recently lapped the famed Nürburgring in 7:41.27 seconds. While all that power and suspension upgrades helped the ZL1 reach 170 mph on the Nürburgring course, aerodynamics also played a role in helping the ZL1 maintain stability and steering response on the track.

"The Camaro ZL1 lapped the Nürburgring in an incredible 7:41.27 seconds, which would not have been possible without work of our aerodynamics team," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. "The design of the ZL1 creates downforce like a race car, harnessing air pressure to press the tires against the track for extra grip and control at high speeds."

GM's engineers had a goal of generating downforce for improved handling, but at the same time minimizing the amount of increased drag, which would reduce fuel economy and the Camaro ZL1's top speed.

Two weeks ago GM dropped the first video of the new 2013 Cadillac ATS running laps on the Nürburgring. GM has now released the first chapter of their behind-the-scenes series at the famed German track.

GM is serious about making the ATS competitive with its German competition, like the new BMW 3 Series. The video also gives you some new shots of the exterior and interior of the ATS.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS will be released next summer.

Back in 1969 Holden revealed its first concept car, the Holden Hurricane. The concept was meant "to study design trend, propulsion systems and other long-range developments." The mid-engine, rear wheel-drive, two-seater concept featured many features and technology that were ahead of its time like an electronic digital instrument displays, station-seeking radio, automatic temperature control air conditioning, rear-vision camera and an automated route finder. 42 years later the concept has been restored.

The Hurricane wowed the crowds at its unveiling at the 1969 Melbourne Motor Show.

"At Holden we have always prided ourselves on our ability to look into the future through our concept cars," Michael Simcoe, executive director GMIO Design stated. "It's amazing to think that the features we take for granted today were born out of creative minds over 40 years ago."

The Hurricane was powered by an experimental 262 horsepower 4.2L V8 engine that featured advanced design components such as the four-barrel carburetor - a feature which wouldn't be seen on a production 253ci Holden V8 until the late 1970s.

The Holden Hurricane will be on display to the public at the Motorclassica, car show at the Melbourne Royal Exhibition Building from October 21-23.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS recently hit the famed Nürburgring for two weeks in September. GM has released a new video of the Cadillac ATS that is the first official glimpse of the new compact sedan.

The rear-wheel-drive 2013 Cadillac ATS sedan is slated to arrive in the summer of 2012 and will go head to head with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It's expected to be offered with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder and a 3.6L V6. A coupe version of the ATS will arrive sometime around 2015.

Infiniti has announced plans to produce the FX Sebastian Vettel version of the FX50 crossover that it created for its new ambassador Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel helped Infiniti create a special version of the Infiniti FX50 that features a 420 horsepower V8 and lots of carbon fiber pieces to increase the crossover's downforce and to make it lighter.

The news was broke by Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer at a recent interview. According to Palmer the the FX Sebastian Vettel edition is a "kind of pilot for IPL, the Infiniti Performance Line. It's about being able to do our equivalent of AMG or M-series, and we wanted to test the organization. Can the organization cope with these kind of special versions?"

More details about the production version of the FX Sebastian Vettel Edition will be released later this year.

Fiat has released its second commercial that features Jennifer Lopez driving around in a Fiat 500C.

The commercial, titled "My World," is voiced-over by Lopez, who is seen driving a Fiat 500 Cabrio as she travels through the streets of Manhattan to the Bronx. The commercial is voiced over by Lopez and "explores her personal take on how life in the New York City borough continues to inspire her to be tougher, to stay sharper and to think faster."

Olivier Francois - Head of Fiat and Chief Marketing Officer and Brand Marketing Communications, Chrysler Group LLC stated, "The commercial tells the story of how the simple elements of our upbringing can help explain who we are, where we're going and serve as a source of inspiration to achieve our goals in life. That drive and determination is the common thread that is shared with the Fiat brand and our philosophy that 'Life is Best When Driven.'"

Ford has released a new video of the 2012 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor that shows off the updates that the truck has received for the new model year. The off-road version of the F-150 pickup gets a new Torsten front differential, front camera and hill-descent control.

Volvo has released a teaser video of its Concept You that is scheduled to debut next week in Frankfurt.

The Concept You is expected to show Volvo's future engine technology and its upcoming Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA). The new platform will be used on a variety of future Volvo models. Volvo also recently announced a new range of four-cylinder engines, Volvo Environmental Architecture (VEA) that will be more fuel efficient and powerful than the six-cylinder engines that they will replace.

The Concept You is also expected to be a preview of the next Volvo S80.

When will the final production version of the Toyota FT-86 be unveiled? Toyota is bringing another updated version of the concept to the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Toyota has released another teaser video of the FT-86 II.

The concept that we will see next week is the fourth FT-86 concept since it first debuted back in 2009. We will also see Subaru's version of the rear-wheel-drive coupe in Frankfurt, dubbed the BRZ. The Toyota version of the coupe is expected to be sold in the U.S. under the Scion brand and dubbed the Scion FR-S.

The Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S are expected to be powered by a flat-four cylinder Subaru engine with around 200 horsepower.

The all-new 2012 Porsche 911 is scheduled to debut next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show. One of the unique features on the new 911 is an available seven-speed manual transmission. We're used to seeing more gears in automatic and dual-clutch transmissions, but five-speed and six-speed manuals have been the norm, until now.

Porsche is adding a seventh gear on the 2012 911 to help improve fuel consumption at highway speeds. According to Porsche gears 1-6 have a sports ratio and the top speed is reached in sixth gear. The seventh gear has a longer ratio for lower engine speeds even when traveling at high speed and reduces the 911's fuel consumption.

Last week GM unveiled the Cadillac Ciel Concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The four-door, four-seat convertible immediately impressed the crowd and showed off the direction that Cadillac's Art & Science design language could go in.

The Cadillac Ciel concept featured classic American style in a futuristic concept. Although it may have drawn styling cues from past Cadillacs, the powertrain was totally modern. The Cadilac Ciel concept featured a 425-hp 3.6L hybrid powertrain.

Clay Dean, global design director for Cadillac stated, "It emulates the great touring cars seen on the greens at Pebble Beach, but with a modern flair that projects Cadillac's vision for the future."

During the show Jay Leno was lucky enough to get to spend some time with GM's VP of Global Design Ed Wellburn.

Ferrari has unveiled the convertible version of the 458 Italia, the 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider. The Ferrari 458 Spider now holds the title as the world's first mid-engined car with a retractable hardtop.

The 458 Spider is set to debut next month in Frankfurt. It's powered by a naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5L V8 that packs 562 horsepower. The engine is mated to a dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission.

The retractable hardtop is made entirely of aluminum and takes only 14 seconds to retract. The hardtop fits ahead of the engine bay and still enables the 458 to have luggage space behind the seats.

The upcoming 2012 Tesla Model S and Tesla Roadster recently hit the road together. This video shows Tesla's two models driving together for the first time.

Honda hasn't officially unveiled the European version of the 2012 Civic, but the automaker has released more details about the all-new Civic. Honda is going to officially unveil the all-new Civic at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

The 2012 Civic will be offered exclusively as a five-door hatchback. The 2012 Civic will get an updated 2.2L iDTEC diesel four-cylinder engine that puts out 147 horsepower and emits only 110g/km of CO2.

Too bad Honda doesn't offer a diesel engine in the U.S.

Another 2012 Porsche 911 prototype has been caught testing in Stuttgart, Germany. This time the new 911 was barely disguised and was caught filling up at a gas station.

The 2012 Porsche 911 will have its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

The all-new 2011 Dodge Durango is now the latest model from Chrysler to be named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The IIHS recently named the 2011 Durango a Top Safety Pick for receiving a good rating in its front, side, rollover and rear crash tests. A "good" rating is the highest rating possible.

"The Durango is the eighth vehicle from Chrysler to earn the Institute's highest safety honor," said IIHS president Adrian Lund. "The performance of the Durango means buyers are getting the best protection in the most common kinds of crashes, and electronic stability control for avoiding many crashes altogether."

"With the latest addition of Dodge Durango, coupled with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, Chrysler Group has eight Top Safety Picks for 2011. This recognition by the IIHS underscores our commitment to engineering safety and security technology across all vehicle segments," said Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President - Engineering, Chrysler Group LLC. Tesla has released another video of the upcoming 2012 Tesla Model S sedan having fun on a track.

The prototypes are pretty much devoid of any camouflage and you get to hear the sounds of the electric motors as they wiz by the camera.
