2016 Toyota Mirai fuel-cell vehicle can travel up to 312 miles

Toyota has announced that the upcoming 2016 Mirai fuel-cell vehicle will have a driving range of 312 miles on a single fill of hydrogen. The Mirai is also rated at an EPA estimated 67 miles MPGe.

Next-gen Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ may borrow the Miata's chassis

Toyota and Mazda continue to further their partnership, which is seen by the introduction of the new Scion iA, which is essentially a rebadged Mazda2. Now there's a new rumor that the partnership could involve Toyota borrowing another one of Mazda's models - the new MX-5 Miata. While the it's unlikely that Toyota would sell a rebadged Miata, there's a report that the roadster's chassis could be used for the next-gen Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ coupes.

Scion has announced the pricing for the 2016 Scion iA sedan and 2016 Scion iM models, which are both going to go on sale in September. The Scion iA is priced at $16,495, while the iM starts at $19,255.

Scion xB will disappear at the end of the year

When Scion launched in the early 2000's, the xB was the most popular model in its lineup with its quirky boxy styling. By 2008 it turned into a more bloated looking box, which lost most of the quirkiness that made the original fun. Now seven years later, Scion has confirmed that the xB will end its run by the end of the year.

2017 Scion FR-S to get updated styling and a little more power

Toyota has been pretty vocal about the fact that sales of the Scion FR-S have dropped off since it was introduced back in 2012. Sales of the FR-S were actually down 29 percent in April compared to a year ago, so hopefully an upcoming refresh to to the 2017 FR-S will help keep it alive.

Toyota CEO wishes Lexus introduced a three-row crossover instead of the RC Coupe

Lexus has one major whole in its lineup - a three row crossover and apparently one Toyota exec is wishing that wasn't the case. Jim Lentz, Toyota's North American CEO recently revealed that he feels that it would have been a wiser choice for Lexus to have built a three-row crossover instead of the new RC coupe.

Scion has revealed the updates to the 2016 Scion FR-S, which gets some interior improvements, two new colors, a new standard audio system and a rear-view back up camera. The interior gets bright silver interior accents on the steering wheel bezel, shift bezel, door grip, and along the sides of the center console.

Tokyo has set a goal of putting 6,000 vehicles on the road by the 2020 Olympics, which will see the city spend up to $385 million on fuel cell vehicle subsidies and hydrogen stations. Tokyo plans to build 35 stations and is in negotiations with Toyota and Honda, since both automakers plan to release new fuel-cell vehicles within the next year.
