Mitsubishi has put its stamp on the Nissan Leaf with the unveiling of the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV, a compact electric SUV that is set to arrive in the latter half of 2026.

It is the latest addition to the automaker’s electric roster and a cornerstone of the Momentum 2030 business plan. In a move that underscores its partnership with Nissan, the Eclipse Sportback EV is built on the next-gen Leaf platform.
Nissan has only recently made the switch from a hatchback to a crossover for the new Leaf, providing a solid underpinning for Mitsubishi’s efforts. Though hard numbers on the specs are still being kept under wraps, one can expect the Eclipse to be powered by the same powertrains as the Nissan Leaf. The Leaf has a driving range up to 303 miles.

To set it apart, Mitsubishi has fitted the Eclipse Sportback with its own front and rear fascias, unique wheel designs and lighting.
The Eclipse Sportback EV is just one piece of the Momentum 2030 puzzle. Under that banner, the company is overhauling its retail approach and working closer with dealers, with a promise to roll out at least one new or revised car annually until 2030. And they are not done: an all-new, rugged off-road variant of the Outlander is also on the books for an early 2027 debut.
