Kelley Blue Book has released its list of the top ten coolest vehicles under $18,000 for 2008. Most of us can think of a list of cars that we would "label" as cool, but most of these cars probably don't list for under $18,000.

The current Prius was introduced for the 2004 model year, so its growing a little old even though it is the best selling hybrid in the US, by far. Next January, Toyota is going to unveil an all-new 3rd generation Prius.

Honda released the all-new 2008 Honda Accord last September and it seems like most people, well at least people that make comments on here, said the car was ugly. Well it looks like the US buying public has spoken and the new Accord was not only the best selling car in the US last month, but the best selling vehicle.

Volkswagen officially took the wraps off the Passat CC (four-door coupe) in Detroit earlier this year. VW expects approximately 60% of the sales of the CC ( VW dropped the "Passat" portion of the name) to come from the US.

The slowing economy and insane gas prices in the US have made it increasingly harder for automakers to sell their large SUVs and trucks.

Toyota and Scion Inventories Increase to Record Levels


Declining auto sales in the US have forced many automakers to make cutbacks and to rethink their current lineups. Until now this did not include Toyota which continues to sell record levels of its Prius, Camry and Yaris vehicles.

BMW unveiled the M1 Hommage Concept this weekend at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este. The concept pays tribute to the original M1, which just had its thirtieth birthday.

Suzuki has just announced that the 2009 Suzuki SX4 is going to be the first car in America for under $16,000 that will feature a standard navigation system.

Mazda has officially unveiled the 2009 Mazda6 for the North American market.

Lexus has officially registered names for its upcoming IS Coupe, which provides more evidence that the automaker is finally going to release a coupe version of its smallest sedan.

It's Official the 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1 puts out 638 HP!


GM officially unveiled the 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1 at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, but at that time the automaker had yet finalize the certification of the 6.2L LS9 V8.

Volkswagen has unveiled the Jetta BlueTDI that has been developed specifically for the North American market.

Chevy Announces 2008 Cobalt XFE with Improved Fuel Economy


Gas prices are over $4 a gallon in some places in the country, so everyone is finally demanding more fuel efficient models. Couple that with the Bush administration announcement a few days ago about the new fuel economy standards. Now automakers are trying to figure out creative ways to squeeze out even better fuel efficient models. Chevy is hoping to capture some of these fuel-economy minded consumers with an updated Cobalt.

Just in time for spring, Saab has unveiled the 2008 Saab 9-3 Convertible Yellow Edition.

Ford announced today that the automaker posted a $100 million profit for Q1 2008, which is a $382 million increase over the same period last year. Most of the profit can be attributed to strong sales in Europe and South America, which helped offset the declining US market.

VW Announces Carefree Maintenance Program on 2009 Models


Volkswagen has announced the new Carefree Maintenance Program that will be available on some of its 2009 models.

Chevy launched the all-new Malibu last fall and it has recieved a lot of attention especially from the automotive press. I even drove all three versions right before it was released. One of the main sore spots was the 4-cylinder that was mated to a four-speed automatic (how archaic for a 2008 model). GM promised that eventually the 4-cylinder would be mated to the six-speed automatic transmission and here it is...

Today the Bush Administration announced that by 2015 all automaker's fleets must average 31.6 mpg.

The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 starts at $40K when you factor in the gas guzzling tax. That's a little too high for most of us, so for the 2009 model year there will be lesser powered Challengers with a much lower price tag.

2008 is the Last Year for the Hyundai Tiburon


Hyundai unveiled the all-new rear-wheel-drive Genesis coupe at the New York Auto Show last month. It was rumored that the new coupe would eventually replace the Tiburon in the lineup, although Hyundai execs eventually said it would not. Well John Krafcik, Vice President of product development for Hyundai recently told the Automotive News that the this is going to be the last year for the Tiburon.

Audi Q5 and Mercedes GLK SUVs are Set to Debut in Beijing


Audi and Mercedes-Benz are going to use next week's Beijing Auto Show to debut the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLK SUVs.

Chrysler officially unveiled the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram at the Detroit Auto Show in January, but failed to unveil the regular cab model alongside the crew cab.

GM officially unveiled the Cadillac CTS Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show this past January. At the time the automaker would not say if the car was ever going to enter production, although we all new better.

Ford Wants to Cut Emissions by 30 Percent by 2020


Ford is pledging to reduce its vehicle's emissions by 30% by 2020 in Europe and the U.S.

Toyota and Subaru announced today in a joint press conference that Toyota is going to double its stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, the company that produces Subaru cars.

Chevy has released one official photo of the upcoming Chevy Cobalt SS Sedan.

Chrysler is recalling all 2007-2008 Chrysler Sebrings and Dodge Avengers to fix an electrical defect.

Volkswagen has announced that the automaker is going to issue a recall of every 1999-2005 VW Passat.

Currently Pontiac claims that the Pontiac Solstice GXP is only capable of putting out 260 horsepower, but according to sources it could be closer to 300 horsepower.

The Smart ForTwo is finally being offered in the US and it is selling way beyond expectations, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has raised a concern about how the car performed in recent tests.

Currently Mercedes-Benz does not offer a 4-cylinder C-Class in the US. This may all change due to the high gas prices and new CAFE regulations.

BMW CEO Confirms New tii Models in the Works



In an interview with Car Magazine, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer confirmed that a range of tii performance options will soon be available on BMW smaller models, specifically the 1 and 3-series.

NBC has made it official that the Knight Rider made for TV movie is going to become a series on NBC.
