Waymo has announced that it is expanding its fleet of self-driving vehicles with the addition of 62,000 Chrysler Pacifica minivans. The latest announcement builds upon the partnership between FCA and Waymo. In addition to the extra minivans, the two companies have also begin discussions about using Waymo’s self-driving technology in a future FCA vehicle that will be available to retail customers.
“FCA is committed to bringing self-driving technology to our customers in a manner that is safe, efficient and realistic,” said Sergio Marchionne, Chief Executive Officer, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. “Strategic partnerships, such as the one we have with Waymo, will help to drive innovative technology to the forefront.”
FCA will deliver the 62,000 Chrysler Pacifica minivans to Waymo by the end of the year, which will be just in time for when Waymo plans to launch the world’s first self-driving transportation service, which lets the public use Waymo’s app to request a vehicle.
