VW Scirocco fans that we disappointed when VW decided to not bring the current Scirocco to the U.S. may finally get their wish. VW launched the current VW Scirocco in Europe in 2008, but decided to not bring the coupe to the U.S. Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW Group of America recently told the Automotive News that he is now lobbying to bring it here.

At the 2012 New York Auto Show Browning stated, “That’s a piece of the lineup that I would dearly love to see here.”

The Scirocco was last sold in the U.S. in 1988. The current Scirocco launched in 2008 during the financial crisis, so VW did not want to take the risk to bring it back to the U.S. at that time. A facelifted Scirocco is due in Europe in 2013.
