VW is recalling over 377k Jettas, Golfs, Rabbits and Beetles equipped with the 2.5L engine. According to NHTSA the Jetta, Jetta Sportwagen, Golf and Rabbit may have a small plastic tab located on the windshield reservoir that may chafe against an underhood fuel supply line. The Beetle and Beetle convertible may have a fastening clamp on a hydraulic hose of the power steering line that could chafe against the fuel supply line.
If the chafing does occur it could lead to a potential fuel leak, which could lead to a fire. To fix the issue dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and remedy the problem free of charge.
The recall is expected to begin by January 31, 2011.
