Volkswagen is reportedly working on a new carbon fiber roof option for specific performance versions of the Golf. The new carbon fiber roof will help the Golf drop around 20 pounds, which will improve its performance and fuel economy.
Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen‘s research and development chief told Edmunds that “The challenge at this point is to develop a set of waterproof joints to seal the roof to the car’s body sides and to its windshield.”
A timeframe for its introduction was not given. The all-new seventh generation Golf will arrive in the US early next year as a 2015 model.
