The Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced that the 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge P8 electric crossover has received its highest safety rating – Top Safety Pick+.

To qualify for the award a vehicle has to receive good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests — driver- and passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. It must also be available with good or acceptable headlights and a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

Lastly to qualify for the higher tier “plus” rating the vehicle must come with good or acceptable headlights across all trim levels and packages.

“Regardless of body style, engine or trim, every Volvo offers world-leading protection in a crash.” said Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. “We are proud that IIHS has recognized this by awarding a Top Safety Pick Plus to every vehicle we produce today. No other company has been awarded this honor across all carlines in 2021.”
