In an effort to increase its sales in Europe, Volvo is fast at work on a new smaller crossover dubbed the XC30.

The XC30 will be smaller than the XC60 and will compete primarily with the BMW X1, upcoming Audi Q3 and a new small crossover from Mercedes that is being referred to as the GLC. The XC30 will share many of the same design cues as the larger XC60 and will be used to attract younger buyers to the brand. The XC30 will use a four-wheel-drive version of the C30’s platform.

The XC30 is due by the end of 2013.
