Volvo has already confirmed plans to introduce an all-new XC90 for the 2022 model year, but it looks like the XC90 won’t remain the Volvo’s flagship SUV for long. A new report claims that Volvo is planning another SUV called the XC100, which will sit at the top of the lineup.
MotorTrend is reporting that the XC100 Recharge will be introduced for the 2024 model year and unlike the XC90, it will only be offered as an electric SUV. The 2024 XC100 will be based on the second generation of the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA 2), which will also be used by the next-generation XC90.
Also instead of offering three rows of seats like the XC90, the XC100 Recharge will only have four seats. The XC100 Recharge will also have a coupe-like profile. Sales are expected to kick off in 2023 with an estimated starting price of $85,000.
Last week Volvo also announced that it is partnering with Luminar to add a lidar sensor to its future models, which will provide full self-driving technology.
