Following all the several photo leaks, Volvo has officially announced the details for the 2013 V40 that will debut in Geneva next week.

“The all-new V40 is the first new model that is fully developed according to our human-centric, Designed Around You strategy. Charged with an outstanding set of high-tech features it definitely will give our toughest competitors a headache,” says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation.

The V40 five-door hatchback takes styling cues from other Volvo models like the S60 and XC60, but applies them to a smaller compact package. According to Volvo, the V40 is an expressive car with a Scandinavian luxury look and feel, a high-quality aura and meticulous attention to detail.

The V40 will have a range of engines ranging from Volvo’s first diesel to the turbocharged T5 engine with 254 horsepower that accelerates the V40 from 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds. All of the V40’s engines feature start-stop and braking energy regeneration.

“The all-new V40 wraps you in a super-comfortable cockpit with outstanding ergonomics and technology that make you feel informed, focused and relaxed. This driver-centric approach is what modern Volvos are all about,” says Stefan Jacoby.

Volvo expects to sell 90,000 units a year, with 85 percent of the total volume going to to buyers in Europe. It has yet to be announced if the V40 will be offered in the U.S. Production will begin in May 2012.
