“We were planning on a three-five per cent take rate of [the XC90 T8 hybrid],” Volvo UK managing director Nick Connor stated to Auto Express. “But our current rate on sold orders is over 20 per cent. We underestimated it.”

This month Volvo is going to reveal the S60L Twin Engine plug-in hybrid at the Shanghai Motor Show. The S60L Twin Engine is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that powers the front wheels, while an electric motor powers the rear. The system generates a combined output of 306 horsepower and 405 lb-ft. of torque. Volvo also estimates that the electric motor can power the S60L Twin Engine alone for up to 32 miles.

It’s not clear how many hybrids Volvo plans to offer in the U.S.
