Volkswagen is getting ready to introduce the eighth-generation Golf, but in the meantime, VW has decided to simplify the 2020 Golf lineup in the US. In addition to killing off the Golf SportWagen and Golf Alltrack, the Golf R has also been dropped for 2020.

2019 VW Golf R

The 2020 VW Golf lineup has been reduced to only two models, the base Golf and the Golf GTI. The base Golf will only be offered in a new Value Edition, which comes standard with keyless access with push-button start, leatherette seats, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, heated washer nozzles, and 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

The 2020 Golf GTI is available in two trim levels: S and SE. The Golf GTI comes standard with Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, and in-car Wi-Fi. An Autobahn package is available for the SE and adds a Discover Media infotainment system with navigation, automatic dual-zone climate control, a Fender audio system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, and Light Assist.
