When the second-generation VW Tiguan arrived last year, VW decided to continue to sell the old model alongside it. Badged as the Tiguan Limited, the original Tiguan offered a smaller and cheaper alternative to the larger second-generation Tiguan, but now it’s done.
VW spokesperson Mark Gillies confirmed to CarsDirect that the Tiguan Limited will be discontinued after the 2018 model year. When VW decided to continue offering the Tiguan Limited for the 2017 model year, it represented a cheaper option with a starting price at $22,860, while the 2018 model saw its price increase to $23,150. The larger 2018 Tiguan start at $25,495.
Even with the cheaper starting price, most buyers decided to opt for the larger Tiguan with only 1,355 units of the Tiguan Limited moving off dealer lots, compared to the 8,579 Tiguan models sold.
