Volkswagen continues to bring new crossover concepts to the auto show circuit and next month it won’t disappoint, since the automaker has just announced plans to unveil the new T-Roc crossover concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Last year Volkswagen showed off the CrossBlue and CrossBlue CoupĂ©, which were follow ups to the Cross Coupe concept that debuted in 2012.

The T-Roc crossover concept is purely a concept, but it shows the potential for a smaller crossover that would be positioned below the Tiguan in Volkswagen’s lineup and would borrow its platform from the Golf. Compared to last year’s CrossBlue and CrossBlue CoupĂ© concepts, the T-Roc is a two-door crossover. Volkswagen says that the “T” portion of the concept’s name refers to the two removable roof panels, while the “Roc” portion of the concept’s name is in reference to its off-road ability and how it “does not shy away from rocky off-road trails.”

The T-Roc concept is powered by a 2.0L TDI diesel engine with 182 horsepower and 230 lb-ft. of torque that is mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission. The concept only takes 6.9 seconds to reach 60 mph, has a top speed of 131 mph and gets 48 mpg on the EU cycle.

For now Volkswagen has only released sketches of the T-Roc concept, so stay tuned for all the real photos and more information next week from the show.
