It looks like Volkswagen is going to finally dial up the Golf’s performance with the arrival of the more powerful GTI this summer and the 290-hp Golf R early next year. Now there are reports that VW is working on an even hotter version, called the Golf R Evo.
It’s being reported that VW is going to show a Golf R Evo concept at the Beijing Motor Show in April, which will be used to see if the public actually wants it. The Golf R Evo will be based on the Golf R, but will be even lighter since the rear seats will be removed and carbon fiber will be used for some of its body parts. It’s expected that the Golf R Evo will be about 200 pounds lighter than the Golf R, giving it a weight that is closer to the slower GTI.

Even better, the Golf R Evo will also get more power under the hood. Want it? Stay tuned for all the details in April.
