The Ford Ranger has been on life support for quite a while with Ford publicly confirming that the small pickup was eventually going to be dead in the US. Well the UAW has confirmed that the US-spec Ford Ranger will stop being produced this December.

December 22, 2011 is the last day that the Ford Ranger will be produced at Ford’s Twin Cities assembly plant. The Ford Ranger has been produced since January 1982 and since then more than 7 million have been produced.

Ford has yet to announce a direct replacement for the Ranger in the US, but the Ford F-150 powered by the 3.7L V6 will be the closest we will get to a replacement for the Ranger. Ford has unveiled an all-new Ranger for markets outside the US, but no plans have been announced to bring it here.
