Trio of 2022 Nissan Frontier concepts debut in Chicago

Nissan Frontier Concepts

If you’re a fan of the old Nissan Hardbody, you’ll be excited to see one of the new Frontier concepts that debuted at the Chicago Auto Show this week. The Project Hardbody brings back all of those fond memories of the 1980’s.

The Project Hardbody is based on the Crew Cab SV trim and it’s ready for an off-roading adventure with its 3-inch lift and adjustable upper control arms. It also takes some parts from the PRO-4X version, like its fenders and skid plate. Gloss black trim has been added to the door handles, mirror caps, rear bumper, exhaust finisher and front fascia. Black step rails have also been added.

As a nod to the past, the Project Hardbody gets retro 17-inch block wheels that are wrapped in 33-inch BF Goodrich KO2 tires, a sport bar in the bed and even a 4×4 graphic on the side.

Nissan also brought two other concepts to the show, the Project 72X concept and the Project Adventure. The Project 72X pulls inspiration from the Datsun 720 pickup. It’s based on the base S trim 4×4 and gets a 2.5-inch lift with adjustable upper control arms. It also gets retro side graphics, 17-inch steel wheels and a sport bar.

The Project Adventure is the overlanding Frontier. It’s based on the PRO-4X trim, but it adds a 5-inch lift with adjustable upper control arms, a Yakima bed rack with a rooftop tent, a snorkel, ad 34-inch mud terrain tires.
