Last month Toyota unveiled the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, which not only looks sportier than the outgoing iM Corolla, but will also have a more engaging driving experience. While the 2019 Corolla Hatchback is a major improvement over its predecessor, Toyota may amp up the performance even more in the near future.

Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia, vice-president of sales and marketing, recently hinted to Motoring that a hotter version of the Corolla Hatchback could happen. When asked about is a high-performance Corolla Hatchback would be successful, Hanley stated, “Absolutely I do.”

Toyota recently introduced its GR (Gazoo Racing) sports car lineup last fall in Japan and is now in the beginning stages of launching it in Australia. While Hanley didn’t confirm that the Corolla Hatchback will be part of the GR lineup, he did state, “…we see in the future — it’s not impossible we could get a really nice Corolla or other type of car, and if that opportunity arose through our Gazoo Racing development we would put our hand up for it.”

At this point a timeline for the hotter Corolla Hatchback isn’t known, but it could arrive in around three years.
