The Toyota Tacoma is one of the most rugged SUVs you can buy today, with its TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro versions. Now Toyota wants to improve the 4Runner’s on-road performance with the addition of the 2022 4Runner TRD Sport.

2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport

The 4Runner TRD Sport places more emphasis on road dynamics, instead of off-road performance like the other trim levels. The biggest addition is a new Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension. The suspension automatically adjusts the damping force of shock absorbers and a center control absorber cross-links the shock absorbers on opposite corners of the vehicle, like an “X,” to help reduce pitch and yaw by offsetting opposing inputs.

The TRD Sport is available with 2WD or 4WD. It also gets 20-inch wheels with Dark Gray accents, a TRD-style hood scoop, and color-keyed accents on the grille, rocker panels and body molding. Inside the seats are wrapped in black SofTex with gray contrast stitching.

Under the hood there aren’t any changes, which means that the 4Runner TRD Sport is powered by the same 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.
