The Toyota Prius V has come to the end of the road, since the 2017 will be the last model year for the hybrid in the United States. After six years, Toyota Prius V sales have declined thanks to the introduction of the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Prior to the RAV4 Hybrid’s arrival, Toyota sold 28,300 units in 2015, but when the RAV4 Hybrid arrived in 2016, Prius V sales were halved to only 14,800 units. This year Toyota old sold 8,300 units in the first 10 months of the year. On the flip side Toyota sold 41,400 RAV4 Hybrids through October this year.

“After six years and nearly 160,000 units sold in the U.S.,” Toyota’s East Coast communications manager Corey Proffitt told Green Car Reports, “the decision was made to end Prius V production for the U.S. and Puerto Rico this December.”

The Prius V will continue to be sold in other markets outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

The news of the Prius V’s death in the U.S. also follows Ford’s decision to discontinue the Ford C-Max here as well. Ford confirmed earlier this month that the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid has already ended production, while the death of the C-Max hybrid isn’t too far off.
