It’s been almost 20 years since Toyota sold the iconic Celica sports car and although there have been several rumors about a revival we have yet to see one. Now it looks like the Celica is officially coming back, based on a recent statement from a Toyota executive.
Japanese magazine, Best Car has a quote from a Toyota exec that confirmed the news at the 2024 Rally Japan event last weekend. When the publication asked chairman Akio Toyoda about a new Celica, the CEO instead let Executive Vice President Yuki Nakajima answer the question, who simply stated “We’re making the Celica.”
His full response about a new Celica, “To be honest, there is no sign of it right now. However, there are many people within the company who are eagerly awaiting the Celica. So…I’m not sure if it’s okay to say this in a public forum, but we’re doing the Celica!”
Toyota has yet to make an official announcement about a new Celica, so stay tuned.
