With the success of small pickups, like the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, it’s only a matter of time until other automakers jump on the bandwagon. A new report claims that Toyota is considering a small pickup based on the Corolla.
Automotive News is reporting “Corolla-based pickup remains a possibility, but its appearance is a work in progress.” Toyota hasn’t made any announcements about adding a smaller pickup to its lineup, but AN expects that even if it gets the green light, it probably won’t arrive until at least 2027. With the timeline, it would likely be based on the next-generation Corolla.
The Corolla based pickup truck would be a unibody pickup, like the Maverick and Santa Cruz. If it does happen, AN expects that it will be assembled in Mississippi alongside the standard Corolla.
