Ford CEO, Allan Mulally has announced that the next generation small and midsize cars from the Blue Oval will be global cars. This means that models like the Ford Focus, which differs from the model in Europe will finally be the same car.
Ford is also working on a compact B-segment car that will be sold in the US and Europe based off the new Mazda2.
The time frame for the new global cars was not announced, although analysts predict that the next Focus in 2010 or 2011 will be global and the Fusion should move to the new platforms sometime in the next decade. The cars will not be identical, but will share common platforms.
