Toyota has unveiled the 2017 Prius Prime plug-in hybrid today at the 2016 New York Auto Show. The new Prius plug-in hybrid can now travel twice as far as the old model and is expected to be rated at 120 MPGe – higher than any other plug-in hybrid.

The Prius Prime is powered by the same 1.8L hybrid powertrain as the standard Prius, but a larger 8.8 kWh battery pack gives it a 22 mile electric driving range. That’s still lower than the Chevy Volt, but a more usable range than the last Prius plug-in hybrid. It can also travel at speeds up to 84 mph in EV mode. If you plug it into a standard 110-volt outlet, it will take up to 5.5 hours to fully recharge the Prius Prime, but that time can be cut in half with a 240-volt outlet.
Other technology upgrades include a new 11.6-inch HD touchscreen and an available full color head up display. A new Intelligent Parking Assist can parallel park the Prius Prime, reverse it into perpendicular spaces and automatically steer it out of a parallel space.
The 2017 Prius Prime will begin arriving in Toyota showrooms in late fall.
