Tesla has released the production and sales results for Q4 2017, in which Tesla delivered 29,870 vehicles, of which 15,200 were Model S, 13,120 were Model X, and 1,550 were Model 3. Sales of the Model S and X were up 33% for the year to 101,312 vehicles, but what we’re more interested in is the results of the Model 3.
Although only 1,550 Model 3 vehicles were delivered in the last quarter of 2017, the big news is that during Q4 Tesla made major progress to address the Model 3 production bottlenecks. Production has now increased. In the last seven working days of the quarter, Tesla made 793 Model 3’s. Tesla also says that in the last few days it has achieved a production rate of over 1,000 Model 3’s per week.
“As a result of the significant growth in our production rate, we made as many Model 3’s since December 9th as we did in the more than four months of Model 3 production up to that point.”
By the end of this quarter Tesla expects to have 2,500 Model 3’s rolling off the production line per week, by the end of Q2 2018 that total will grow to 5,000 a week.
