Elon Musk has announced that Tesla is getting ready to launch a faster Supercharger network early next year. Tesla also plans to double the capacity of the Supercharger V3 network by the end of next year.

Currently the Supercharger network can charge a battery up to 50 percent in only 20 minutes, while a complete charge takes up to 75 minutes, but those times are about to be cut with the third-generation upgrade.

Although Elon Musk is saying that the third-generation Supercharger network will “charge much faster” it’s not known exactly how much faster the new chargers will be. Most Tesla owners now have to pay to use the Supercharger network, unless they were referred by an existing owner. There’s also a chance that Tesla may eventually open its Supercharger network to other automakers, but it’s not known when.
