Last night Tesla unveiled the new Roadster, which will arrive in 2020. If you want to get one you can reserve it now for $50,000, but if you want to be one of the first to get it, you’ll want to reserve the “Founders Edition.” But there’s a catch, the Roadster Founders Edition requires you to pay the whole $250k price tag now, three years before you’ll even get it.
Tesla opened the reservation books for the new Roadster and although it’s unlikely that the reservations will pile up as fast as they did for the Model 3. To reserve the base $200k Roadster, you’ll need to make a $50,000 reservation now.
If you missed the specs, the new Roadster will reach 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and has a driving range of 620 miles.
While Tesla is saying that the new Roadster will arrive in 2020, the chances of that happening are slim. Tesla is still having issues getting the Model 3 up and running, plus the new Model Y crossover is expected soon. Plus don’t forget that Tesla also has the new Semi to get into production before the new Roadster.
