The sales numbers have been finalized for the first quarter of this year and with that it’s now being reported that the Tesla Model S outsold the Chevy Volt in Q1 in North America. Tesla expects to report that it sold 4,750 Model S sedans in the US and Canada, which beats the 4,421 units of the Chevy Volt that were sold during the same period. The Tesla Model S also beat the Nissan Leaf, since Nissan only sold 3,695 units.
“Any success for a company in this space is helpful for all other makers of plug-in vehicles,” said Jim Cain, a spokesman for General Motors. “The single most important thing we can do for plug-ins, to encourage sales, is to have them on the road.”
Tesla also recently announced that it is building a fleet of top of the line Model S and Roadster loaners for owners when they need to have their Tesla serviced.
