Tesla has announced the location of its next Gigafactory, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk referred to as “GigaTexas” during the company’s second-quarter 2020 earnings call. The new GigaFactory will be in Austin, Texas.
The new facility will build the Tesla Cybertruck and Semi, plus the Model 3 and Model Y for the eastern part of the United States.
“It’s right on the Colorado River and we’ll have a boardwalk alongside. It’ll be an ecological paradise and it will be open to the public,” stated Elon Musk, Tesla CEO.
Tesla was also looking at Tulsa, Oklahoma for its new Gigafactory, but it went with Austin after it asked for more tax breaks. Tesla wants to start building the new site as soon as later this year and when it’s complete it will create 5,000 new jobs.
