Subaru is set to officially unveil its version of the rear-wheel-drive coupe that it has developed with Toyota at the Tokyo Motor Show this December. The Subaru version will go on sale early next year and according to Toshio Masuda, a Subaru senior general manager of product planning, an STI version will eventually be available. But unlike the STI variant of the Impreza, the STI version of the new coupe will not be getting a turbocharger.

Subaru’s STI package usually includes turbocharging, a sport-tuned suspension, lower profile tires and bigger brakes. A turbo version of the coupe is probably not in the cards since the original concept of the car involved keeping the engine naturally aspirated.

The coupe is expected to be powered by Subaru’s new 2.0L four-cylinder boxer engine.
