We’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next-generation Subaru WRX and WRX STI models and although Subaru hasn’t released any juicy details, a new report might give us some clues about what we can expect. A report from Japanese site Car Sensor claims that the next-gen Subaru WRX and WRX STI will be powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine.

The brand’s FA24 2.4-liter turbo flat-four already powers the Ascent, Legacy and Outback, but a high output version will give the WRX and WRX STI more power than the current 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet that the engine generates.

How much power can we expect? A report claims that the engine could have 400 horsepower and 361 lb-ft. of torque. A six-speed manual will be available, but it’s not known what transmission it will get for buyers that don’t want a manual. The current CVT can only handle up to 295 lb-ft. of torque.

Stay tuned.
